D.A.R.E. Officer Training ( D.O.T.)

Description
This carefully designed comprehensive training course has been developed to prepare officers to teach the Drug Abuse Resistance Education curriculum. Successful completion of this training course is required to certify an officer to teach the curriculum to students in the classroom.
As of June 1, 2003, this training will now certify the officer to teach not only the new Elementary program, but also the new Middle School and D.A.R.E. School Resource Officer curriculums. The training course consists of 80-hours of classroom instruction in skills such as communications, teaching methodology, classroom management and an overview of the D.A.R.E. curriculum. The training will be conducted by D.A.R.E. Officers who have completed the 80-hour D.O.T. and 40-hour Mentor Officer Training in cooperation with professional educators.
Requirements
Trainees must have a minimum of 2 years police service as a sworn officer before enrolling in the course. This requirement is a national standard. Waivers in certain circumstances may be obtained. Waivers are usually not granted with less than 18 months of police service. Contact D.A.R.E. New Jersey for further information.
Details
A continental breakfast will be provided for each morning along with a Graduation lunch. Hotel accommodations, if necessary, are the responsibility of each participant. Each attendee will report in civilian attire (jeans and collarless shirts are not permitted) by 8:00 AM each day. There will be occasions when officers will be required to wear their uniforms during the training.

Note
Notice of cancellation must be received by D.A.R.E New Jersey, Inc. 72 hours prior to the first day of cancellation to avoid being billed or to receive course refund.
